-In the courtroom at the Jodi Arias trial. Many of the usual faces are here in the spectator section. Media is rather thin. I see Tara Kelley and some other jurors in the gallery. Nurmi and Willmott just went back into chambers. Jodi Arias is not in the courtroom yet. Juan is here…Det. Flores just arrived. Just to remind everyone, this will not be live streamed and most of the hearing will be held in chambers and sealed. Jodi just came in wearing her gray prison striped outfit with salmon socks. Jodi Arias was just escorted back by the well armed sheriff’s deputies. She is in chambers now. These guys are scary looking.

@Chriswnews: Never seen a Jodi Arias escort like this. Arias walked to chambers her shackles making a racket. Arrives in chains surrounded by what appears to be an MCSO SWAT team.

@WildAboutTrial: Willmott just bolted out of chambers and smiled at Flores and Juan, she is getting something from her desk and heading back in. No sign of Travis’ family, just supporters.

@chriswnews: Was told Travis Alexander aunt the only family member expected in the gallery. Sis Samantha to attend via phone. Family civil attorney here.

@WildAboutTrial: Looks like other attorneys here for other trials. Nurmi, Willmott and Jodi Arias are still back in chambers. Flores and Juan continue to semi-reclinate and laugh while they chat. The courtroom is full of chatter. Flores and Juan were just summoned back into chambers. Everyone is coming out of chambers. Jodi Arias has full umbrella bangs and makes a clanking noise as she walks. She went to her room.

@maryellenabc15: Jodi Arias is walked back through court to her holding cell…she is shackled, handcuffed and in jail stripes. Jail SWAT is guarding her.

@WildAboutTrial: The armed sheriff seems to be clearing Jodi Arias’ table. She is brought out now and is sitting down. There are 4 fully armed sheriff deputies here to keep an eye on Jodi Arias. These are some serious deputies. Wow. Jodi Arias is sitting with the DP mitigation specialist whispering. Sheriffs haven’t left her side. Jodi Arias did not seem to have a smile on her face, looked rather tired. Attorneys are back. Judges Stephens is present and addressing the court now. Court is deferring the ruling on the motion to delay the trial until July 18. The hearing is over.

Jurors Back In Court

Both Tara Kelley and Marilou Allen said on the Dr. Drew show tonight that they will be in court for Thursday’s hearing. They both said they are ‘still invested’ and want to ‘see this through.’ Tara was an alternate but Marilou was in on the deliberations. Marilou said the jury went into deliberations (on the Murder 1 charge) without preconceived notions and debated the felony and the premeditation aspects of the case. She also mentioned the ‘sheer brutality of the murder, underscored by Dr. Horn’s testimony.’ When asked about the defense’s asking for a delay Tara said it was ‘ridiculous.’

Both women are still approached by friends and people in the community to talk about the case. They are slowly getting back to their lives.

The hearing this Thursday (8:30 AZ time) should address the delay request. It will not be live streamed but the pool and still cameras will be there.

Motion To Deny Moving Trial To 1/2014

According to ABC15.com’s Corey Rangel, the prosecution has filed a motion asking the judge to deny the motion for a delay filed by the defense. They defense had said they needed time to find other witnesses to stand up for Jodi (they have had 5 years) and that they had scheduling conflicts. Martinez responded: ““Neither reason warrants a continuance of the proceedings until the first part of next year.” For more here’s the link:

Patty Admits: No Death Threats

Just now on the Dr. Drew show Patty Womack, who asked Dr. Drew to introduce her as ‘Jodi’s Former Friend’, said she ‘never, ever received a death threat.’ She also said they were friends from ages 12-20, and that she and her other friends that knew Jodi couldn’t believe such a ‘sweet, sweet girl’ could do such a thing. Patty also disputes the DUI (for heroin) charges and the aggravated assault charges saying someone made them up and she has ‘never been in trouble.’ Then she went on to say the “State Vs. Jodi’ site posted her address and now the ‘whole entire world’ knows where she lives. (For more on Patty just type in “patty’ in my search bar.)

Jury hung on penalty phase of trial. New jury will need to be selected. Found guilty of 1st degree murder. Ex-girlfriend charged with the murder of former boyfriend Travis Alexander in Mesa.

I did hear on Websleuths that cameras would be there, but this says no one has requested them yet. Hopefully the judge will not allow the defense to push this trial into next year! Here is the link:

Patty’s Back!

The woman who refused to be on camera in court (and then refused to testify at all) is showing up on HLN again. If she is so terrified and getting death threats then why is she on Jane Mitchell’s show and slated to be on Dr. Drew tomorrow night? Last time I checked death threats were illegal and those that give them can be tracked and prosecuted. If I was worried for the safety of myself and my daughter I would not be on TV at all. I would distance myself from Jodi and this case altogether.

Personally I don’t buy it. The day she actually showed up in court to testify for Jodi in the Penalty phase she backed out when Juan questioned her. Patty refused to answer questions about whether she and Jodi did drugs together. (She went out into the hall with the defense attorneys and returned saying she wanted to ‘take the fifth.’)

These were not her lawyers and were not supposed to give her any advice. A lawyer was later brought in for her. I did not hear it, but I bet he also brought up her DUI arrest for Heroin. She was also questioned about the monies she received from the Nancy Grace show- remember she showed the video of Jodi at her wedding? Well she apparently forgot to claim the money she received! Oops! (Though I don’t know if it is true, someone said she is on welfare and she was supposed to tell them she got that money).

I also heard that she was not properly dressed for court, and that they tried putting a sweater over her but it wasn’t good enough. If I were Jodi I would NOT want his mess standing up for me!

Jodi’s aunt, Sue Allen Halterman has started a new petition on Change.org. She is trying to stop the prosecutor, Juan Martinez, from writing a book on this case:

I find this interesting as I remember someone brought up Mr. Martinez writing a book and If I remember correctly he said that he was too busy being a prosecutor to write a book.

Arias Trial Moved To January?

According to court documents (thank you, NancyB for the link!) the defense has filed a motion to move the trial to January 2014. They site that Jodi wants to find witnesses to stand up for her, the conflicts in dates with both Nurmi and Willmott and the fact that Willmott has 5 other cases coming up, four in August. According to Wild About Trial’s Brian Skoloff, Maricopa’s County attorney, Bill Montgomery said that Arias is competent to stand trial and any statement that she isn’t fit for the proceedings “is simply inaccurate.” This is in response to an earlier statement from her defense attorneys that she was mentally ill. (See a previous post). At a news conference today he also said: “We’re continuing to prepare for a retrial.” Apparently both the prosecutor, Juan Martinez and the Alexander family want to pursue the death penalty. A status conference is scheduled for June 20. The retrial date for the start of the penalty phase is scheduled for July 18.
